Rotel’s 15 series components have received high praise for sound performance from a plethora of audio magazines including Hi Fi Choice, What Hi Fi, Home Entertainment, Home Theater, The Absolute Sound and many others.

Now, Kalman Rubinson puts our new RSP-1572 preamp/processor through its paces in the March issue of Stereophile. In the review, Kal goes into quite some detail on the merits of Rotel’s approach to EQ.

Excerpts from the review:

“The Rotel’s menus were easy to navigate, and its bass management options were excellent.”

“The sound was well balanced from the HDMI sources and from the multichannel analog input…”

“The midrange and treble were clean and transparent and the bass was full, the subs providing ample weight.”

“The RSP-1572 has 10 filters, each variable in Q and gain and adjustable in increments of 1Hz, but each restricted to a set range of frequencies. However, four of the Rotel’s filter ranges overlap below 140Hz, allowing the user to correct most modes in most rooms.”

“Yes, the Rotel’s EQ worked very well. Overall, it took me about two hours to do all that. Bottom line: In every way, the results rewarded the effort invested.”

“So, how did the Rotel RSP-1572 stack up against its competition in the busy $2,000 class? It sounded as good as any, and was completely devoid of operational idiosyncrasies or switching noises. It distinguished itself with the delightful simplicity of its operation, which doesn’t try to entice the user into meddling with processing controls but still provides all the facilities the user needs.”

“…those of us who don’t mind getting our hands dirty with some measurement tools can have it all with the RSP-1572: great sound and great looks.”

Aon 3 Ultra-High-Performance Compact Bookshelf Monitors

The compact, 14″ Tall Aon 3 Bookshelf Monitor incorporates a 7″, High-Definition, Multi-Vaned Phase Plug (MVPP™), cast-basked Mid-Bass Driver, coupled to two 8″ Inertially-balanced side-mounted Low Frequency Radiators and the GoldenEar High-Velocity Folded Ribbon Tweeter (HVFR™).

The Aon 2 and 3 are exceptionally compact, ultra-high-performance bookshelf speakers that were originally developed for use as nearfield monitors in professional mixing applications. The design goal was to produce modestly-sized shelf or stand-mountable speakers that would achieve accurate high-definition sonic reproduction, with superb three-dimensional imaging, comparable to that achieved by GoldenEar’s award-winning Triton Two Towers. Although they don’t have quite the awe-inspiring bass of the floor-standing Tritons, great care has been taken, and extensive technology has been incorporated, to ensure that the Aons can deliver a remarkably satisfying listening experience without the need for a separate subwoofer.

Both Aon models incorporate GoldenEar-designed cast-basket bass/midrange drivers with technology derived from the midrange units developed for the Tritons. In addition, they both use the same extraordinary and costly High Velocity Folded Ribbon (HVFR™) high frequency radiator used in the Tritons. Lastly, each Aon model utilizes two side-mounted planar low-frequency radiators in a dynamically balanced configuration in order to properly load the bass/midrange drivers for an open, box-less midrange, while also contributing to the Aons’ remarkably extended bass for such small enclosures.

The Aons are of a truncated pyramidal construction, which results in significant performance advantages due to the non-parallel cabinet walls and the reduced baffle area around the tweeter. Aesthetically, the sleek, attractive pyramid-inspired shape combined with appealing design details including piano-gloss black end-caps, results in beautiful speakers that are both elegant and distinctive.

New GoldenEar Triton Three Now on Display.

The Triton Three is literally a smaller version of the award-winning Triton Two. It is the perfect solution for listeners looking for a more compact loudspeaker that offers equally superb performance for both high-quality two-channel systems as well as in multi-channel home theater and music systems when paired with our perfectly-matched SuperSat 3 and SuperSat 50C. Its sleek, elegantly curved and tapered design mirrors the award winning styling of the Triton Two with its beautiful marriage of piano-gloss black and designer-fabric-covered surfaces.

Like the Two, the Triton Three incorporates the built-in powered subwoofer technology first pioneered by GoldenEar principals Sandy Gross and Don Givogue. In this case, there is an integral 800-watt digital/DSP controlled power amp driving an active front-mounted long-throw 5″ x 9″ quadratic subwoofer driver. This is coupled to two opposing, inertially balanced 6.75″ x 8″ quadratic planar infrasonic passive radiators which are located on the sides, near the floor, in order to take full advantage of boundary coupling. There is one of the same 4.5″ high-definition cast basket MVPP™ drivers as used in the Two, along with the same GoldenEar signature High Velocity Folded Ribbon (HVFR™) tweeter.

Performance-wise, the Triton Three delivers the same boxless three-dimensional imaging as the Triton Two, which reviewers have hailed as “mystical”, “magical” — and, best summed up by the dramatic, “had us believing that the entire surface of the front wall was covered with speakers.” Likewise, the powerful, deep subwoofer bass blends perfectly with the silky smooth, utterly transparent midrange and high frequencies, putting many dramatically more expensive speakers to shame.
