When some customers building a home came to us to handle their basement rec room entertainment, we couldn’t wait to get started. The basement would feature an open theater as well as a kitchen/bar area with game tables in between, and was a space their family and guests would be able to enjoy for years to come.
The theater is comfortable and informal, with sofas on two levels for relaxed seating. Because the customers are HUGE (and we mean huge) Star Wars fans, the theater plans included lighted ceiling panels by Kinetics that mimic a starry sky. It’s a great effect for movie watching at night.
A 123″ Stewart Filmscreen Firehawk screen is flanked by a Paradigm 7.2 surround sound system, powered by Integra. One of Epson’s new and revolutionary HD laser projectors lights up the screen.
The rack, by Middle Atlantic, is positioned in the wall alongside the screen and houses all of the equipment that controls the theater and the sound and lighting automation throughout the entire entertaining area.
Speaking of the entertaining area, the kitchenette (if you can call it that) and bar opposite the theater provide a great place for preparing refreshments and hosting friends. A 48″ Sony television across from the island bar provides a convenient space for watching television or sports. Under cabinet, task and accent lighting is controlled by a Control4 system using tablets and keypads.
All of these components come together to create a space that is not only great for fun, casual gatherings with family and friends, but most importantly makes entertaining and having fun nearly effortless.
